YOUTUBE:  Do Not Let Their Blood Have Been Shed in Vain  (11 November 2018)

"They loved God, king, and country. They loved this land and they loved our nation. Yes, they loved you and me. And what I want to ask is, do we return that love? "Having had our ANZAC Day commemorations and memorial this past Monday, I felt inspired to pay my own tribute to our brave ANZACs, including both of my Great Grandfathers. Sadly, neither of them made it home. To those who served then and to those who serve now, I thank you. Here is my rendition of The Last Post.  Lest we forget..."

Petitions

I Stand With Soldier F

Stop the harassment of all serving and ex-military personnel:  "We the people demand an immediate cessation of the politically motivated witch hunts against our troops.  In particular, we find the Government-backed persecution of very elderly former soldiers over matters that occurred in Northern Ireland almost 50 years ago to be abhorrent, disrespectful and outrageous, especially when hundreds of terrorists were pardoned and released under the Good Friday agreement. Yet our brave soldiers are now hounded and live in fear of being jailed"

Sign Our Petition to Support Ex-Forces!  (15 June 2013)

"Because of the nature of the work carried out by the armed forces and the sacrifices made by the men and women who serve in them, we believe that the government has a moral obligation to ensure that when their service careers are over they are given every assistance to integrate back into society..."

Armed Forces' Charities

The Army Benevolent Fund: The Soldiers Charity

"We are The Soldiers Charity. We give lifetime support to serving and retired soldiers and their families. They risk so much for us, but for them, it's just doing their job. In return, we provide financial assistance when they are in real need. ... Even when a soldier leaves the Army they are still part of our family and eligible for help. The scope of our work is huge. Half of our money is given direct to individuals to help in areas such as debt relief, mobility assistance, education bursaries, carehome fees and respite breaks. The other half is given as grants to other charities."

Help For Heroes

"Our mission is to deliver an enduring national network of support for our wounded and their families. We will inspire and enable those who have made sacrifices on our behalf to achieve their full potential. Everyone at H4H is passionate about helping our heroes, most of us have links to the Services; some have partners, friends or relatives who've been injured or have lost a loved one. We take the time to listen and understand what's needed and do our very best for our heroes every single day. We have a complete open door policy and welcome all of our supporters to visit us or pick up the phone to find out just what a difference your donations are making to the lives of our heroes."

Army of Angels

"Army of Angels is a Military Charity that provides direct and indirect support to members of the UK's armed forces who have been injured, physically or mentally, while serving their country in conflicts around the world. We also support their families and co-dependents. The charity supports all services and all ranks f those who have fought for their country including veterans of the wars in Europe, the Far East, the Falklands and the Gulf. ... Please support the Army of Angels so that we can continue to support our wounded service men and women."

Poor Fools...

"Men fight for liberty and win it with hard knocks.
Their children, brought up easy, let it slip away again, poor fools.
And their grandchildren are once more slaves."

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
    Between the crosses, row on row,
  That mark our place; and in the sky
  The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead.  Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
  Loved and were loved, and now we lie
       In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
  The torch; be yours to hold it high.
  If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
       In Flanders fields.

John McCrae, MD,
Canadian Army (1872-1918)

"[T]he foe of which John McCrae wrote were not the people in the opposite trenches.
The foe were tyranny and dictatorship ... our soldiers knew this ...
Yes, we have indeed dropped the torch! Yes, we have indeed broken faith with those who died and lie in Flanders Fields! ...
and yes, we will have to bear the consequences in the years to come..."

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
(Ecclesiastes 3:1-8)
